Celebrating 50 years of Special Education
In 1975, Congress passed the Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act, or “IDEA,” which established the framework for modern special education. This legislation made special education accessible to all students who required unique educational support beyond what schools at the time could or were willing to provide.
Anchor and investigative reporter Kerry Kavanaugh of FOX 25 News spent the last 12 months covering special education programs, issues, and concerns in Massachusetts to mark the last five decades of progress.
Please watch her hour long report, with plenty of cameo appearances from CREST staff, documenting and celebrating the gains our kids have benefitted from over the past 50 years.
